# Measure

Several different types of measurements, such as volume, point density, and surface area, can be measured using the **Measure** tool.&#x20;

Measurement is performed within a [geometry](https://docs.phoenixlidar.com/spatialexplorer-8-and-9/user-interface/windows/project/geometry). The measurement is then added as a field to the geometry. If you do not have any geometries currently loaded into the project, you can create one using the [Picks](https://docs.phoenixlidar.com/spatialexplorer-8-and-9/user-interface/windows/measurements-window) window.&#x20;
